Man seriously injured in early morning shooting, police say

Rapper Drake's property in Toronto's ritzy Bridle Path neighbourhood was taped off by police early Tuesday after a man was seriously injured in a shooting in the area.

The shooting happened around 2:10 a.m. ET near the corner of Bayview and Lawrence avenues, Toronto police said in a brief post on X, formerly Twitter.

Responding officers found a man badly injured and he was taken to hospital.

A suspect fled in a vehicle, police said. No descriptions of either the suspect or the vehicle were provided by police.

However, a police source said early details from the initial call suggest the victim was a security guard at the home who appears to have been shot in a drive-by attack.

He suffered a gunshot wound to the upper chest and was unconscious when officers arrived, according to the initial report.

The victim was taken to hospital via emergency run, where he underwent surgery.

Images of the rapper's palatial 50,000-square-foot home are frequently shared online, often by Drake himself.
